Water shortage has hit all areas across Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, even the wealthiest neighbourhoods usually spared from such shortages; amid an unprecedented heat wave reports VOA.

The shortage has increased the price of water with a barrel of water costing 10 times more than it did a few months ago.

Ouagadougou’s public wells and government trucks carrying water tanks serve long queues of women and children. The capital has been divided into two zones, and each is supposed to have water for 12 hours a day.

Businesses have been hit worse by the shortages with government looking for ways to alleviate the situation.

“We heard that there is a program to relieve us but we are still waiting to see its effects,” said Drabo, whose laundry   business is in one of the worst hit in the south of the capital, to VOA ” It’s been about two months since we have had water during the daytime.”

Burkina Faso is a landlocked county within the West Africa region. It suffers dire water shortages and electricity cuts which usually runs from March through June.
