
Botswana bids farewell to its former President, Ketumile Masire
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has joined regional leaders in Gaborone, Botswana for the burial of former president Sir Ketumile Masire on Thursday.
Other leaders at the burial include former president Thabo Mbeki and Lesotho’s King Letsie III.
Masire died on June 22 in Gaborone, the capacity at the age of 91.
Masire was the president of Botswana from 1980 to 1998 and is said to have helped transform Botswana into the envy of other African nations.
He led various diplomatic initiatives in Africa, including chairing a panel that investigated the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and co-ordinating the Inter-Congolese National Dialogue.
