Three attackers who stormed a hotel in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, were killed after an overnight gun battle between them and security authorities, officials say.

The attackers entered the Ambassador Hotel on Maka al-Mukarama street after setting off a car bomb at the gates outside.

The attack killed at least 15 people and wounded over 50. Among those killed are two Members of Parliament.

The attack that lasted 12 hours caused major damage to property. The hotel is said to be popular with politicians in the country.

Islamists militant group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
