At least two people have been killed by a grenade attack in a rare incident of violence in Bangui, Central African Republic’s capital.
Men on motorbikes threw grenade into crowds gathered in three different places in southern Bangui during the evening, residents said.
A Medecins Sans Frontieres aid official confirmed that at least 20 people were wounded by the attack.
Bangui, secured by French UN soldiers had not experienced any attacks for months.
MINUSCA has released a statement condemning the attack.
Thousands of Central Africans have lost their lives and hundreds of thousands remain displaced following the two years of violence that erupted after mainly Muslim Seleka rebels seized power in the majority Christian country in 2013.
Voters are due to go to the polls on October 18 to choose a new president and parliament to replace an interim government led by Catherine Samba-Panza.
Preparations are however lagging behind and the head of interim parliament had issued a statement saying that the polls are likely to be postponed again.
