Alleged rapists of minor escape from prison in Chad

Two of six suspects arrested for the rape of a young school girl in Chad have escaped from a prison in N’Djamena on Monday.

The two suspects the sons of senior military officials in Chad allegedly climbed the prison wall and fled on a motorcycle despite heavy fire from the police reports Jean Afrique.

According to the paper the director of the prison was dismissed on Tuesday following the escape, four policemen were arrested and placed in custody for investigations.

The two fugitives are among six that were suspected of sexually violating 16 year old Zouhara in February 2016. The victim was gang raped on her way to school. The young girl shocked the country and sparked outrage following her live debate to fight impunity from the families of the senior dignitaries. The victim’s had put the video of the young girl crying online but has long since been removed.

The girl’s school mates and youths gathered outside her home and walked with her to the courthouse calling for “Compensation for Zouhora”. The demonstration was dispersed violently by the police leading to the death of one of the protesters.

Chad’s President Idris Deby denounced the impunity on his facebook page.

It’s father shocked I react (…) to this barbaric act, despicable and unspeakable,” said the Head of State in a statement published on the Presidency Facebook account.

The Attorney General of the Court of Appeal of N’Djamena announced the opening of a judicial inquiry in the rape in February.
