Read < 1 minute

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on Friday announced its plan to bid for rights to host the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

FAF in its announcement said that the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sport has assured it of its backing to the proposal.

The Federation will now put together a commission in order to write a bid document before submitting it to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The 2022 tournament will be the seventh edition of the competition which is reserved for locally-based players.

The next edition in 2020 will be hosted by Ethiopia.

CHAN 2018 was hosted by Morocco after CAF withdrew a bid awarded to Kenya due to a lack of adequate preparation.

The host nation went on to win the tournament.
