Read < 1 minute

Algeria planned to hold early presidential elections on September 7, according to a presidential statement.

The decision was made following a meeting chaired by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the speakers of the higher house, the Council of the Nation, and the lower house, the People’s National Assembly, with the attendance of other high-ranking officials, it said.

The statement outlined the preparations for the upcoming race but did not specify whether Tebboune would run for a second term.

Tebboune’s current presidential term will end in December, 2024.
