Algeria says ‘regrets’ Syria strikes

Read < 1 minute

Algeria says it regrets the air strikes carried out by the U.S., U.K. and France against Syria on Saturday, Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.

U.S., British and French forces struck Syria with more than 100 missiles on Saturday, targeting what they called chemical weapons sites in retaliation for a poison gas attack.

“Algeria can only regret the strikes,” Reuters quotes Ouyahia to have said.

He added that it was necessary to wait for the findings of an investigation into the alleged chemical attack before taking any steps.

Algeria’s comments were echoed by Russia’s UN envoy, Vassily Nebenzia, who, while reading a quote from President Vladimir Putin, accused the Western allies of “cynical disdain” in acting without waiting for the results of a chemical watchdog investigation into the Douma incident.

Following the strikes, President Donald Trump on Saturday warned that the U.S. was “locked and loaded” to strike again if the Syrian government carried out new chemical attacks.
