Algeria on Friday reported 148 new infections and three new death cases from the novel coronavirus.

Head of the COVID-19 Detection and Follow-up Commission, Dr. Djamel Fourar, told reporters that the total infection cases in the country surged to 4,154, adding that the death toll increased to 453.

Fourar further added that 42 patients recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 1,821.

The government decided last Friday to relax the lockdown measures, tolerating several businesses to re-open in a bid to ease the social and economic impact of the pandemic.

Yet, doctors have warned that such measure could push infection rate to record level if people do not comply with required social distancing and sanitary rules.

Authorities have announced to maintain the partial nationwide lockdown measure until May 14.
