Alcohol consumption lowers risk of heart attacks

A recent study published in the Lancet Medical Journal suggests that alcohol consumption offers a certain level of protection against heart attack. Alcohol however also increases the risk of getting cancer according to the report. The study was carried out in 12 countries across the globe among them, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The research – which monitored nearly 120-thousand participants over a period of four years – found that alcohol was “associated with an overall 24-per cent reduced risk of heart attack”
