Africa’s COVID-19 infections reach 1,359,724: Africa CDC
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa stood at 1,359,724 on Tuesday, according to data published by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The figures also show that the continent had reported 32,795 deaths even as some countries continue to see a decline in the number of new infections.
South Africa is the hardest-hit country on the continent, having registered 650,749 confirmed cases and 15,499 deaths.
The figures represent 47.9 percent of the continent’s caseload and 47.1 percent of its fatalities.
Egypt is the second worst-affected country, having recorded 101,177 cases and 5,661 deaths.
Only the two countries have reported more than 100,000 COVID-19 infections in Africa.
A wider look at the latest data from the Africa CDC shows that ten countries on the continent have reported more than 20,000 COVID-19 infections.
The total number of successful recoveries by Tuesday afternoon stood at 1,106,991.
