Chinese President Xi Jinping said Monday that as COVID-19 remains a pandemic and vaccines play a key role in humankind’s victory over it, China stands ready to promote cooperation with Morocco on COVID-19 vaccine development and production.

Xi made the remarks in a telephone conversation in the night with Moroccan King Mohammed VI.

Opinion:
Morocco and China, which have historical ties that have strengthened over the years, aware that Africa today deserves partnerships for equitable cooperation, more than its need for imbalanced relations accompanied by conditional support.

Morocco’s strategic choice based on diversifying its partners is reaffirmed during the official visit of our majesty King Mohammed VI to China in 2016. This visit enabled the strengthening of political relations between the two countries, based on the principles of friendship, understanding, solidarity, and a common will to diversify areas of bilateral cooperation.

The relations between Morocco and China have noticed the remarkable pace of development of their cooperation in recent years in various fields, based on the strong diplomatic relations that bind them, as well as the strong political will that forces them to move towards promising horizons for cooperation.

The COVID-19 crisis has revealed the scale of solidarity between Rabat and Beijing through the exchange of various forms of support and the sharing of experiences, As Morocco was the first to express its solidarity with China during the period of its fight against the virus, as Moroccan institutions took the initiative to send medical materials to support the country’s efforts to contain the pandemic, and likewise China was keen to support Morocco and facilitate the acquisition of its medical needs from its companies, as well as holding a series of meetings between Medical experts from both countries to share experiences in fighting the epidemic.

In the post-pandemic phase, the direct air link between Casablanca and Beijing will overcome the negative economic repercussions of the epidemic and will give new impetus to the strengthening of cooperation between two countries that form the leading poles of Asia and Africa.

It is certain that the positive advantages of this direct air route will not only be limited to serving the cooperation between Morocco and China but will also include the countries of the African continent affected by the repercussions of the epidemic, which will find in this line a way to reach the Asian giant given the continental leadership of the Royal Air Maroc company through its network of direct lines to most Countries of the African continent.
