A breastfeeding mum could soon be the latest emoji

A nurse Rachel Lee from University College of London Hospital officially petitioned the Unicode consortium to add the breastfeeding emoji.

Speaking to Huffignton post she said: ‘’I just don’t think we are exposed to it enough in society and sometimes we forget how important it is developmentally in all areas to mothers and their babies.’

In a letter proposal she submitted to Unicode she wrote: “The lack of a breastfeeding emoji represents a gap in the Unicode Standard given the prevalence of breastfeeding in cultures around the world, and throughout history.”

She further said that the emoji would help break down negative public perception towards public breastfeeding.

The breastfeeding mum emoji is one of the most-requested of the past year and nurses are backing a push to make it official.
