Mali’s Interim president thanks Ghana’s Akufo-Addo for role in resolving crisis
Mali’s transitional President Bah N’daw has thanked Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo for his role in helping resolve the political crisis in the country.
N’daw hosted the Ghanaian leader in Bamako on Sunday for talks on various issues affecting the West African region.
President Akufo-Addo also met with various other leaders in Mali, including Vice President Colonel Assimi Goita and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane.
Mali’s military ousted former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on 18 August following months of mass protests across the country.
The military junta held on to power until 25 September when N’daw was inaugurated as the interim president.
The transitional government will remain in place for 18 months, after which a general election will be held to find a new president.
In his meeting with the Malian transitional president, President Akufo-Addo reiterated the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) support for the interim government in its service to the Malian people.
The Ghanaian president also serves as ECOWAS chairperson. ECOWAS played a big role in resolving the political crisis in Mali.
