Health leader says U.S. could have enough COVID-19 vaccine for every American by March
There could be enough coronavirus vaccine doses for every American as early as March of 2021.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar made the projection on Thursday during a keynote speech at a virtual event on the coronavirus.
Azar said the United States is currently manufacturing doses for all six potential vaccines as part of the Trump Administration’s Operation Warp Speed initiative.
Several vaccines are in late-stage trials including ones from Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
The goal of Operation Warp Speed is to produce up to 100 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine for vulnerable populations by the end of the year.
The U.S. is also securing needles, syringes, bottles and other immunization supplies.
