South Africa’s national state of disaster extended by a month
South Africa will remain in a national state of disaster by another 30 days, according to a government notice release on Saturday, just hours before the deadline on Saturday midnight.
Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Olamini Zuma, extended the national state of disaster from 15 August 2020 to 15 September 2020 stating the reason as “taking into account the need to continue augmenting the existing legislation and contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state to address the impact of the disaster.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa first announced the state of disaster in late March as a move by the country to curb the spread of COVID-19.
