Kenya is one of only ten African countries that have reported more than 10,000 COVID-19 infections.

In his televised address on the country’s COVID-19 situation, Kagwe urged Kenyans to continue adhering to the set health guidelines in efforts to curb further spread of the disease.

Having reported its first case in mid-March, the Kenyan government imposed restrictions including a partial lockdown and a nighttime curfew in a bid to contain the disease.

President Uhuru Kenyatta last week announced a gradual reopening of the country, but called upon Kenyans to remain vigilant in order to protect themselves and those around them from the disease.

Beyond Kenya, Africa has reported more than 669,000 COVID-19 cases and over 14,400 deaths.
