The Kenyan government on Monday reported that there are three suspected cases of the coronavirus in the country while another 14 people are under quarantine.
Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, who spoke during a press conference, added that the test results of the 17 people in question are expected soon.
Oguna clarified that the three people who are suspected cases are being isolated because they met the case criteria.
Oguna said that a total of 20 people are currently being monitored and not 22 as earlier stated by the government.
“According to medical protocol, we cannot keep anyone in hospital whose test results are not positive. We keep on testing them and those who have shown they do not have the virus, we let them go,” Oguna said.
Oguna said that more than 30 of the country’s 47 counties had the necessary quarantine and isolation facilities in place for handling suspected COVID-19 cases.
“If at all this situation was to sprout seriously at the community level and we are not ready there, we will have a big issue. Therefore, we have consistently worked to enhance county capacity.”
