7 killed in alms distribution stampede in Nigeria: police
At least seven people were reportedly killed following a stampede Sunday at a venue for alms distribution in Nigeria’s northern state of Bauchi, the police said Monday.
Hundreds of people had gathered Sunday morning in the Bauchi metropolis to receive alms from a local philanthropist when the incident occurred, police spokesman Ahmed Wakil told reporters in the state capital of Bauchi.
He said four of the victims, mainly women and girls, died in the hospital Sunday, and three others died Monday.
“Altogether, six died in the hospital and one died at home,” Wakil said, adding that some were injured in the stampede.
