Africa is tearing down symbols of its colonial past. Where there are names, they’re being deleted or replaced with indigenous ones.
This is happening in Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire. In South Africa, three decades after the end of Apartheid, a debate has continued over whether symbols of white domination should still stand as reminders of the country’s painful past. Some have been brought down after protests.
