Nigeria loads first batch of crude oil at Dangote refinery
The Dangote oil refinery in Nigeria on Friday received its first cargo of 1 million barrels of crude oil, the company said Saturday.
Once operational at full capacity, the refinery, capable of processing 650,000 barrels per day is set to transform Nigeria into a net exporter of fuels.
It could be a game changer for Nigeria’s economy, as the West African county relies on fuel imports despite being one of the continent’s largest oil producers.
The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki area of Lagos State, is Africa’s largest oil refinery and the world’s largest single-train refinery.
“Dangote Petroleum Refinery can meet 100 percent of Nigeria’s requirement of all refined products, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet, and also have surplus of each of these products for export,” the company said in a statement.
