Ghana, one of the world’s largest cocoa producers, kicked off its minor cocoa purchase season on Friday.

The light crop season to run from June to September will mop up cocoa produced after the end of the major season.
The purchase price announced is 475 Ghana cedis (about 88.19 US dollars) per 64 kg.
The light crop season starts amid efforts by Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire to get buyers to accept a floor price of 2,600 dollars per tonne of cocoa. This is to ensure that farmers get better returns for their cocoa beans.
Local processing companies depend on the light crop season for most of their purchases.
