Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with his Beninese counterpart Patrice Talon in Abuja.

President Talon is in Nigeria for an official state visit, during which he will hold talks with various high-level government officials.

The two presidents held a closed-door meeting in the presidential villa in Abuja, where they are said to have discussed various regional issues.

Strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries and regional security are believed to have been a major focus of the meeting.

The meeting between President Buhari and President Talon comes one week after Nigeria celebrated its first Democracy Day, in which the Head of State pledged to bolster security and strengthen the war against terrorism.
