Humanitarian groups are appealing for 1.5 billion dollars to provide urgent and life-saving assistance in 2019. This will be channeled to 5.7 million people affected by conflict, hunger and displacement; as they say South Sudan remains in the grip of a serious humanitarian crisis.
The effects of years of conflict and violence against civilians have destroyed people’s homes and livelihoods.
According to South Sudan Humanitarian co-ordinator Alain Noudehou, almost two million people are internally displaced and 2.2 million are outside the country
‘’And the estimation for this year for the number of people who will need assistance is still roughly about 7 million same as last year.”says Noudehou

‘’Peace has come home and with peace doesn’t mean that the suffering, the needs will vanish, actually the needs will increase because a lot of people will be coming, a lot of expectations and people want to leave and go back to their villages especially the IDPs and refugees in the countries around so there will be a lot of influx of people coming back home.”, reveals South Sudan humanitarian affairs minister
The latest statistics by the UN says this year alone more than 4.7 million South Sudanese people have been assisted with food, health, water and sanitation, education, livelihoods, nutrition as well as critical protection services.
Despite the peace deal signed between President Salva Kiir and opposition groups in September this year now bringing hope that the agreement will pave a way towards a peaceful and prosperous country because of the long years of civil war, it might take some time before the population can fend for themselves.”
