South African Kevin Anderson’s historic comeback knocks Federer out of Wimbledon
South African tennis star Kevin Anderson completed a remarkable comeback in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon against top seed Roger Federer, to book his place in the semi-final stage of the tournament.
Anderson looked destined for elimination against the record holder for the most Wimbledon titles, but fought back from match point down in the third set to secure victory by 2-6, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 13-11.
The South African will face either Milos Raonic or John Isner in the semi-finals on Friday while Novak Djokovic will play either Juan Martin del Potro or Rafael Nadal in the other side of the draw.
“I had to keep telling myself that today was going to be my day,” Anderson said after the game.
Federer’s defeat was his first from two sets up since 2011, when he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the US Open semi-final.
