Koulibaly confident Senegal can make it into Round of 16
Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly is confident his side can become the only African side to reach the Round of 16 in the on-going 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The Teranga Lions face Colombia in their last Group stage game, needing just a draw to progress into the next stage of the tournament.
“It’s up to us to make them proud, to fly the flag for Senegal and Africa at this World Cup,” BBC news agency quote Koulibaly.
He said his side would draw motivation from the fact the they would enjoy support from the entire African continent.
“We know we already have 15 million Senegalese behind us and now we have all the continent,” added Napoli’s Koulibaly.
“They’re all going to support us.”
Should Senegal make it through, they will play either England or Belgium in the Round of 16.
The other four African teams – Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco and Tunisia have already been eliminated from the competition, with the last still to play one more game against Panama.
Egypt failed to pick a single point, losing all three of their games.
Nigeria however managed one win, but lost twice to be knocked out.
Morocco got a point in dramatic fashion against Spain after recording a 2-2 draw that was enough to push La Roja forward as the winners of the group.
After today’s games, the tournament will take a one-day break, before the Round of 16 commences on Saturday with a clash pitting France and Argentina.
