High five for Arsenal in Wenger’s home farewell
Arsenal marked the home farewell of manager Arsene Wenger with a fabulous 5-0 win over Burnley in the English Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The emphatic result came 7,876 days after the Frenchman began his stint at the club with a 2-0 win at Ewood Park, way back in 1996.
Showcasing their free-flowing and attacking football, a trademark of Wenger’s 22-year-long reign, the Gunners overpowered a hapless Burnley.
Leaving behind the nightmares of last Thursday’s semifinal exit in the Europa League and the ensuing trophy-less season, the Gunners made a determined start to make the final home game of the season to give Wenger a memorable sendoff against the most promising team of the season.

The stage for the farewell of their most successful manager was set as the Emirates was draped with gigantic “Merci Arsene” banners and 60,000 home fans wore T-shirts bearing the same slogan.
As the match began, it was Arsenal’s striking duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette who found the net in the first half to set the tone for the home side with a 2-0 lead before the break.
The second half saw Sead Kolasinac, Alex Iwobi and another goal from Lacazette making it a 5-0 scoreline against the Clarets, who failed to put up any strong resistance against the club, which accomplished the incredible “Invincible” feat of playing 38 unbeaten games to win the Premier League under the same manager in 2003-04.
Sunday’s sweet win gave Wenger his 475th win in 826 Premier League games.
