Bus crash killed at least 17 in Kenya
A bus plunged into a river in Kenya’s Narok town, located to the west of the capital Nairobi, killing 17 people and injuring scores others.
The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon as the bus was ferrying passengers to Nairobi.
According to Narok’s County Commissioner George Natembeya, more than 40 people were admitted to hospitals with injuries.
He said that the bus driver was speeding before he lost control of the vehicle as he tried to avoid ramming into an oncoming lorry.
Road accidents involving public transport vehicles are common in the East African country, especially during festive periods.
In December, transport authorities banned night travel in a bid to reduce the number of road crashes. The ban was lifted in January after a court ruled that there was no law in place to effect it.
