BRICS Summit concludes in Xiamen

The ninth BRICS Summit has come to an end in the Chinese city of Xiamen.

In his closing address, Chinese President Xi Jinping said the outcomes made during the gathering point towards a new decade of BRICS development.

“We BRICS leaders believe the world today is undergoing profound and complex changes. While the world economic outlook is improving, all sorts of global challenges continue to emerge. As nations with major influence, BRICS countries must set up communication and coordination on important issues and work for a more equitable international order.” President Xi said.

For the first time, BRICS members – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – were joined by leaders from other countries in Xiamen in a BRICS plus initiative fronted by China.

The other countries include Egypt, Tadzhikistan, Thailand, Mexico and Guinea.

During the final session of that meeting, members advocated to strengthen South-South cooperation pursuing sustainable development.
