Over 200 people displaced, 4 others dead in Uganda’s landslide

At least over 200 people have been displaced and 4 others are said to have died after a landslide hit three villages in the mountainous eastern Ugandan district of Bududa on last Sunday, reports the Daily Monitor.

The landslide hit the three villages of Marobo, Shikhuyu in Buluchecke Sub-county and Nabutsasi in Bumayoka Sub-county, affecting over 200 people from 40 families.

After the landslide, the mountainous district of Sironko suffered a torrential rain which caused a mudslide that killed 4 people, according to the report.

Sironko Resident District Commissioner, Mr Moses Wamoto Kigai says in the report that the victims were residents of Masaba Village in Masaba Sub-county and several people are still missing.

Rescue operations are ongoing.
