THUMBNAIL 2

In an emerging trend, youth and women’s political involvement has gained renewed focus as the election registered a rise of these respective groups; both in the electorate and political aspirants. 51% of registered voters were aged between 18-35 years for example.

Delano terms this “a change in the demographics of elections” where women and youth leadership is on the uptake in Kenya, and whose consequence could be “a flattening of ethnicity” where traditional tribal strongholds will phase away with the emergence of a global pattern of women in leadership.

On the expectations of the incoming administration; restructuring of the cabinet is anticipated according to Delano as programs on education, infrastructure and universal healthcare are revamped.

However, national reconciliation following a polarizing election perhaps remains one of the most demanding tasks for the incoming government as Prof. Macharia points out.

Delano and Macharia concur that Kenya however comes out as a regional leader in terms of the veracity of its elections.
