12-year-old Cameroon born boy takes Borussia Dortmund by storm
Cameroon-born 12-year-old has become the latest sensation in world football after registering a brace for Borussia Dortmund’s U17 side over the weekend.
Youssoufa Moukoko first goal for his side first saw him beat a defender and run 40 yards before finishing coolly into the bottom corner, while the second came from the spot after he had been brought down in the box.
The gifted boy played for the club’s U15s last season and scored 33 goals in 21 games, prompting his call-up to the U17s.
Although Cameroon-born, the youngster is already on the German FA’s U15 list and an international appearance at youth level doesn’t seem far away.
The Cameroon-born player’s age has been questioned by some, but speaking to Dortmund’s official website in April, his father Joseph said there was no reason to doubt it.
“Right after his birth, I registered him with the German consulate in Yaounde [Cameroon’s capital],” Moukoko Sr., who has been living in Germany since the 1990s, said. “The boy can’t be older because his mum, Marie, is only 28.”
While it may be a few more years until Moukoko makes the step up to the pros, his performances so far have put him on the right path to that feat.
