Benin President Patrice Talon has returned to Paris for a “routine” health check after having two operations in France earlier this month, the presidency said on Thursday.
The 59-year-old head of state left Wednesday evening from Cotonou after chairing a cabinet meeting.
“He announced at the cabinet meeting that he was returning to France because he had an appointment with doctors for a routine check following his operation,” presidency spokesman Wilfried Houngbedji told AFP.
It was not confirmed when the president will be back. In May this year Talon had travelled to France for medical checkup and returned on the 18 June.
On June 19, the presidency announced in a statement that Talon had undergone two operations on his prostate and digestive system during his stay in Paris.
Talon underwent two surgeries during his stay in Paris, one procedure due to doctors finding a lesion in his prostate, and a second operation to his digestive system
Talon joins a list of other African presidents who have sought medical help abroad.
They include, President Buhari, Zimbabwe’s Mugabe, Angola’s Jose Eduardo dos Santos . Among them only President Talon has made public his condition.
