Uganda’s Buganda Royal Regatta returns after a decade’s absence

Described as one of Uganda’s greatest water events, the Buganda Royal regatta is the dazzling treat for eyes. Absent for a decade, the boat race has been a much awaited event as oarsmen compete for a Kingdom’s prized trophy.
The participants require tremendous coordination as they sail the waters in the ten-kilometer race. The need for speed depends entirely on the efficiency of those handling the oars.
These boat races have always been a part of the Buganda tradition, drawing hundreds of competitors and excitement among the spectators.
The occasion offered a perfect blend of native craft, culture and sports. And after a ten-year absence, the royal regatta is indeed back with a big splash.
