Turkey will host the first ever World Humanitarian Summit
Turkey will host the first ever World Humanitarian Summit today and tomorrow. More than 6 thousand delegates are expected to attend.
They will address what the UN has called the greatest global humanitarian crisis since World War II. Millions have been displaced in conflict hit countries such as Syria, South Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria, Mali and Iraq.
A current issue also likely to come up in discussions is Kenya’s announcement that it will shut down the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya.
In response, the UN is requesting a record $20 billion in humanitarian aid, five times the amount needed a decade ago.
