Protests planned in Nigeria over fuel price hike

Read < 1 minute

A decision by Nigeria’s government to stop paying fuel subsidies has seen fuel prices in the country almost double.

Labour unions are now threatening an indefinite strike – unless government goes back to the original price.

The Labour Congress has given government three days to respond and is urging Nigerians to stockpile food ahead of the strike.

The country’s finance minister says the subsidy is simply too much of a drain on governments finances.
