Six women arrested for protesting against the trial of opposition figures in Gambia

Six Gambian women have been charged with offences of rioting, unlawful assembly and inciting violence after demonstrating against the prosecution of dozens of opposition activists in Gambia.
The women were arrested outside a courthouse in the capital Banjul on May 9th protesting against the ongoing trial of at least 45 members of the main opposition party United Democratic Party (UDP) under trial for protesting against President Yahya Jammeh.
Women carrying cooking spoons, a traditional symbol of protest in the country protested against the trials, when the six women were arrested. The six will appear in court on Monday.
UDP has alleged that 25 party members were arrested outside the court house. With the six being prosecuted, the other 19 fate’s is still unknown reports Reuters
