Somalia has voiced its concerns over Kenya’s decision to shut down the Daadab refugee camp saying the move could increase the threat of militancy in the region.

Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says, “Expelling vulnerable Somali refugees at a time Somalia is making internationally recognized progress toward stability and institution building, will only increase the risk of insecurity in the region.”

Kenya on the other hand argues that fighters from Somali-based al-Shabaab Islamists terror group have used the camp as a launch pad for attacks within its borders.

Daadab is said to be the world’s biggest refugee camp, currently accommodating 300,000 refugees, most of whom are of Somali origin.
