South Africa props up small enterprises to boost tourism

Tourism in South Africa contributes 3% to the economy and employs close to 5% of the country’s labour force.

The sector has been growing consistently in the last decade but is far from reaching its full potential in terms of tourist numbers and revenues.

Since the recent fiasco around visa regulations, the government is now more determined to improve ease of access to international tourists and wants to make tourism a solution to lifting South Africa’s economy and reducing unemployment.
