Zimbabwe’s ruling party to hold ‘million-man march’ in Mugabe’s honour
Zimbabwe’s ruling party ZANU-PF’s youth branch has set aside May 25, which is also the annual Africa Day, as the date for the controversial “one million man march”, to show support for the party leader and country’s president Robert Mugabe.
The National Deputy Secretary of the party Kudzai Chipanga claimed the march would function as a show of support for the long-serving president, who recently confirmed he would be contesting the 2018 elections if his health will permit, according to Daily News.
Mugabe was set to be the guest of honour at the event, with Chipanga confirming that all supporters of the nonagenarian had been invited to attend.
“Reasons of the event [are] to reaffirm the youth’s support and to confirm our support to his excellency, the first secretary of Zanu PF and the executive president of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde RG Mugabe, as our sole presidential candidate for 2018,” Chipanga was quoted as saying.
