Nairobi Building Collapse: Search continues, as building owners released on bail
Samuel Karanja Kamau and four other co-owners of a building that collapsed in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, on Friday have been released on bail that was set at $5,000 each.
They pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter.
The magistrate said there were no sufficient reasons to detain the suspects. The prosecution had wanted to detain them for 21 days to allow time to complete their investigations.
Rescue operations at the collapsed building in Kenya’s capital were set to continue Wednesday as three more bodies were pulled out of the rubble. The death toll has now risen to 26.
According to Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome, the bodies were pulled out of the building Tuesday night in the operation which also saw nine rabbits rescued.
A six month old girl was rescued alive from the rubble, four days after the incident occurred.The search is still on but slow. At least 90 people are still missing.
