South Africa wins approval to sell more fruit and nuts to Indonesia

Read < 1 minute

South Africa has won quarantine approval to sell more fruit and nuts to Indonesia, one of the world’s most populous nations.

The country can now sell 15 types of fruits to Indonesia in a development that should rake in close to 20 million dollars over the next 3 years.

South African deciduous fruit is in demand by consumers around the world, due to its delicious taste and high yield and now Indonesian palates are set to become far more familiar with them too

That’s because the South East Asian country has given South Africa the green light to export more deciduous fruits to its mainland market bypassing a long and costly road journey that previously made it cumbersome and expensive to export there.

These apples  are among those that will be exported to Jakarta, along with grapes ,nuts and other deciduous fruits, which form part of a total of 3500 tons that are shipped over annually

Shipping costs remain high in many markets but direct access to the market in Jakarta will lower prices and increase profit margins for both the growers and importers.

Agents that represent local producers have noticed a marked increase in the demand for deciduous fruits and believe this opportunity can only spell good news for farmers looking to increase their market share in the Asian country

Further more many stakeholders see this move as a rubber stamp on South Africa’s already well known and world class phyto sanitary standards that not only make its fruit healthy and good to eat but highly in demand
