Experts are baffled over a killer disease  that has yet to be identified in Nigeria. It has killed at least 25 children in Lagos so far. Health authorities have taken samples and are analyzing them.

According to officials, the epicentre of the disease is a fishing community in Lagos but it wasn’t until later when 25 children had died that health authorities stepped up efforts to identity the mystery illness. Symptoms reportedly include a rash not unlike measles.

A team of epidemiologists was sent to the community earlier in February while there has been no more reported deaths – the team hasn’t recorded a breakthrough yet. The community itself may live near an affluent area of Lagos but families live in poor conditions, with little hygiene or safe drinking water.
The results of the laboratory investigations are expected this week.
