A Ghanaian food start-up rapidly growing in the US
A Ghanian has taken on the US food market with a taste of ‘Ghana’ in a spicy tomato based sauce mixed with habanero and green peppers and onion, supreme sauce
“I came up with the concept of shito(the Ghanian sauce) because my girlfriend liked shito very much and she is an American and so we wanted to test the market to see if it will work. And so we used it in the competition but unfortunately we didn’t win,” said Nana Kwamena Takyi-Micah, the Chief Executive Officer of Supreme Sauce to Vanguard
Although he failed the competition, Nana didn’t give up. He worked through four jobs and got support from friends and family to raise 12,000 dollars to start Supreme Sauce.

“We have a photographer on contract, we have the distribution manager, he is in charge of the New York area, he brings contracts, he brings potential clients”, he said.
The sauce is taking on well on the United States markets, having tweaked the Shito since Americans are not keen on eating black coloured food, thus the version of supreme sauce. Supreme sauce has three staff members and is now in more that forty shops, chains and restaurants in the US.
Nana was raised in Accra, Ghana with dreams of being a lawyer but life has shifted his desires into building a business empire. He is conducting a feasibility study in Ghana as part of his plans to extend Supreme Sauce into his home country.
