Police have reportedly arrested several suspects involved in a grenade attack that left two students dead and six injured. The attack took place 21 days after a bomb was thrown at a mosque in Addis Ababa.

The attack happened at Dilla University, around 350 kilometres south of the capital Addis Ababa.  Police say an individual threw a hand grenade on the campus that killed the two students and injured six others among which four have been reported critically injured.

Local media say police have arrested several suspects. The motive for the attack is not clear.

The attack took place 21 days after a bomb was thrown at a mosque in Addis, injuring more than 20 people. So far, few details have emerged about that attack. Ethiopia is among several countries that have sent troops into Somalia to fight Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabab but it looks to have escaped any major retaliatory strike from Al Shabab.

Authorities say they have thwarted several bomb plots in recent years. Alongside Al Shahab, it blames rebel groups based in areas of the south and southeast.
The university though is in a relatively stable area.
