The president of The People’s Republic of China, Mr Xi Jinping will make a state visit to the United Kingdon upon the invitation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, from 20th to 23rd October 2015.

He will be accompanied by Chinese first lady Madame Peng Liyuan.

This visit comes barely a month after Xi made a state visit to the US, one that saw the two super powers reach various agreements including curbing economic cyber spying.

President Xi’s visit to the UK is seen as one expected to mark the start of the second decade of the nations’ comprehensive partnership.

Chinese ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming has hailed the upcoming visit as one that will unveil a golden era for relations.

The last UK State Visit from China was done by former president Hu Jintao in 2005.

In March 2015, the Duke of Cambridge paid an official visit to China on behalf of Her Majesty’s government.

In the months that followed, high-level visitors from both countries shuttled between Beijing and London, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and special envoy Meng Jianzhu, who travelled to London to establish early contact with the new British government.

These exchanges have been credited for the greater political mutual trust and all-round progress in China-UK collaborations.

Xiaoming in a published article noted that economic, trade and financial collaborations have already been fruitful. China is currently the UK’s fourth-largest trading partner, while the UK is China’s second-largest trading partner in the European Union.

The two countries are making progress on nuclear energy and high speed rail projects.

With the state visit now close, expectations are high as the country’s leaders give a new definition to the bilateral relationship as well as setting out new goals and possibly a new blueprint too.

The arrival of this golden era will see China and the UK have an opportunity to engage in all-round cooperation and ultimately reap all-round benefits.
