A Madagascar court handed for men maximum sentences of hard labour on Friday for the mob lynching incident in 2013 that killed two Europeans and a local man.

The three were attacked by a mob on suspicion of murdering an eight-year-old local boy, who was reportedly found washed up on a local beach with his body parts mutilated.

The sentencing came after the court tried 37 people over the October 2013 incident.

Out of the 37suspects, 25 were given the benefit of doubt and released while another was formally acquitted.

One was sentenced to seven years of hard labour while the rest were handed prison sentences ranging from three to six years.
