Five students in Makere University Uganda have created a mobile application that detects vaginal bacteria. The mobile software is connected to a test kit known as, Her Health BVKit, which takes the readings from urine/Vaginal fluids and transmits to the app for diagnosis.
The Mobile application on reading the PH values and screening for the amounts of healthy and unhealthy vaginal bacteria recommends that the user is healthy or should seek medical attention. The app gives information of the nearest doctor or clinic to visit.
Armed with health information from credible health sources such as the St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Kampala, the team uses the application to give a variety of information on vaginal infections such as how to avoid getting the infections.
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection which occurs when the normal balance inside a vagina changes which cause discharges and odour. BV increases a woman’s chances of getting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
It is believed that the innovation will empower women especially those living in the rural areas with much needed sexual health information.
Due to insufficient funds the application is not on cloud therefore not on Google play store or Window’s app store.
