70,000 security agents to be deployed on election day in Tunisia

At least 70,000 security agents will be deployed in different parts of Tunisia to ensure the smooth vote for the early presidential election to be held on Sunday, the country’s Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.
“The members of the security apparatus will be responsible for ensuring the holding of presidential elections in 24 provinces of the country,” said the ministry in a statement.
According to the statement, the security agents will be responsible for securing the voting and counting operations, guests, journalists, observers and also all the candidates in the running.
Civil protection units will also be in place for any intervention or emergency.
More than 7 million registered voters in Tunisia are expected to go to the polls on Sunday, to elect, for the second time since 2011, a president of the republic.
