Read < 1 minute

Three members of the United Nation’s peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo were kidnapped today in the eastern North Kivu province.

A UN source said the troops were taken from Kibumba, some 30 kilometres from the provincial capital Goma. A Congolese army officer said a UN vehicle had been recovered near the presumed site of their abduction.

Their vehicle was left abandoned and the engine of the car was still running. Two of them are believed to be Congolese while one is a Zimbabwean.

It is not yet clear who has abducted the three or where they are being held
